Meat Planning Calculator
How much to buy, how much to store — for any gathering in Hong Kong
How This Calculator Works
The Meat Guy HK Meat Planning Calculator is built on the research behind our Meat Math series — articles covering portion sizes, cooking shrinkage, bone-in versus boneless yields, and freezer storage in Hong Kong homes.
The numbers are based on tested portion benchmarks for different occasions — a BBQ crowd eats differently to a hotpot table. Each result is adjusted for cooking loss by cut type, bone-in weight allowances, and how much your sides reduce consumption. The result is a practical raw purchase weight — what you actually need to put in your basket, not what ends up on the plate.
Why Getting Quantities Right Matters
Buy too little and you're the host who ran out of food — an awkward moment no one forgets. Buy too much and you're left with kilos of meat to store or waste, and a bigger bill than planned. In Hong Kong where freezer space is limited, over-ordering creates real problems. Getting the quantity right means a relaxed event, happy guests, and no waste.
